I believe and support the decision of prohibiting tobacco. I have two reasons to support my opinion. First, tobacco has a large risk in the citizen’s health and other non-smokers. Second, smokers can not quit.

First tobacco has a large risk in the citizen’s health and to other non-smokers. Tobacco may seem like a playful and not serious problem. However, the current global situation considering tobacco is far more worse and serious than what people think. Tobacco kills more than 8 million people each year, more than rifles, atomic bombs and dynamites combined. This is a serious problem, because one, it seriously affects the smoker’s possibility of having lung diseases or cancer, or any other serious health problems. Two, it also kills around 1.2 million non-smokers as well. This is because of the smoke that emits from the cigarette, causing it to spread to people nearby, also called, second-hand smoking. This is extremely harmful, mostly because of the nicotine used in the cigarettes.

For example, in many countries, they are even cigarettes that have taste, such as tobacco that are watermelon-flavored, caramel-flavored, and etc. These flavored cigarettes are sold by tobacco companies to also make children want to smoke. This is a huge problem, for bad chemicals can have a more serious and dangerous effect on small children. This is definitely and seriously a cruel thing for tobacco companies to do just because they want to make a profit. The Opposition side might say it is their own choice if they want to smoke or not, and prohibiting it can steal their freedom of choice. Although this is true, sometimes their choice can negatively affect themselves. Thinking of the citizen’s health, dangerous choices should still be controlled because it is for them.

Second, smokers can not quit. In cigarettes there are many chemicals that cause the smoker to become addicted. Even trying it once or a couple of times can make them be instantly addicted to smoking. This is the whole bad part of smoking. You can’t stop. Even if they know that it’s bad for their health, even if they’re a strong opposer against smoking, if they get addicted, that’s that. You can’t quit how much you want to. Smokers become angry or frustrated when they don’t smoke, causing them to want to smoke to calm their anger. This repeats as they get addicted, and controlling emotions will be more difficult without smoking, which is how they get addicted. The worst part, is that even if the government knows that smoking is not good for their people, they can’t order the tobacco companies to shut down. They got lots of money and profits because of selling cigarettes. From tobacco consumption, the US government raised 49.4 billion in 2021. Selling tobacco makes them rich and powerful, which is a huge part of why they can’t stop and prohibit tobacco very easily. This is one of the reasons why no country still didn’t prohibit, or ban cigarettes entirely. Already, there are 10,288 people employed in the cigarette manufacturing industry, which makes it even harder to ban tobacco.

In other words, cigarettes have a serious negative impact on the citizens and their welfare, including both children and adults, and should seriously be banned and prohibited entirely by other countries by now. These are the two reasons why I believe and support the decision of prohibiting the making and use of tobacco.
